Autobiography

Dr Francis K. Sang is a distinguished Kenyan public servant whose unique voice is forged from a remarkable 48–year career spanning the highest echelons of law enforcement, international diplomacy, and academia. His frontline experience as former Director of Kenya’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) provides a gritty, real-world foundation. At the same time, his visionary role as the founding Executive Secretary of the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA) showcases his strategic, diplomatic acumen in shaping regional security policy. This practical mastery is complemented by rigorous academic discipline as an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at USIU-Africa.

His authorship is therefore a powerful synthesis of intellectual rigour—holding advanced degrees from the University of Leicester and Washington International University—and unparalleled lived experience. An author of two books and a contributor to three scholarly volumes, the author’s writing transforms complex insights from the field into actionable wisdom. Career Timeline

1969

He began his distinguished career in the Kenya Police Service, embarking on a lifelong journey dedicated to public safety, justice, and national service. His early years laid the foundation for a leadership career spanning more than three decades.

1970s–1990s

Through years of exemplary service, He rose through various operational and leadership positions, earning recognition for his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to strengthening policing and criminal investigations in Kenya.

1999–2003

Appointed as the Director of Criminal Investigations, He led one of Kenya’s most important investigative institutions during a transformative period. He oversaw major criminal investigations, institutional reforms, and the modernisation of investigative practices while strengthening national security and justice systems.

2004–2005

Following his policing career, He transitioned into regional peace and security initiatives, contributing his expertise to international cooperation, conflict prevention, and security policy development across Africa.

2005–2010

As the Founding Executive Secretary of the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA), He played a key role in establishing one of Africa’s leading regional organisations dedicated to combating the illicit proliferation of small arms and promoting peace and security among member states.

2010–Present

He entered academia, serving as an Assistant Professor while mentoring future leaders and professionals. His teaching and research focus on leadership, governance, institutional memory, public administration, and lifelong learning.

Present

Today, He continues to document history, preserve institutional memory, and inspire individuals through books, public speaking, research, and leadership mentorship. His publications seek to help readers rediscover purpose, preserve heritage, and build meaningful legacies for future generations.
